I can't believe all of this. There's so many people. Every time I think they'll stop coming, the next day there's crowds just waiting outside the gates! They'd already be inside if the guards weren't closing the gates to try and keep order.
And it's not even keeping order, not really. Everybody knows it. I can stay in the plaza all I like, and watch the people there, but -- but what does that stop there from being riots in the poor quarters of the city? Me standing and looking pretty doesn't keep any shops from being robbed, or beggars being turned away from chapels because they're too full, or ... or any of this! But when I do try to put a stop to it, that doesn't help, either! Just ... makes it stop for a moment, where it starts up somewhere else instead!
And that's just inside the gates! There are entire camps of people who got tired of waiting for admittance to the city, and now they're sleeping outside, in tents and under drapes and whatever else they can get. Just staying there! Until night falls and then it gets impossible for the guards to do anything because the gates are shut. And even if they could do something, they wouldn't, because ... because they're refugees, and nobody wants to deal with that! With them!
This isn't how it was all supposed to go at all! If they had just listened to us and left the Adveni along, this wouldn't be happening in the first place!
